Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica mp3 album

The Moon & Antarctica is the third studio album by American rock band Modest Mouse, released on June 13, 2000 by Epic Records. The album's title is taken from the opening scene of the 1982 film Blade Runner, where the main character reads a newspaper headlined "Farming the Oceans, the Moon and Antarctica.

The latter of which currently questions my ascertations. Wipe the slate clean. You officially have not heard Modest Mouse until you have heard their major label debut. The growth, bravery, and confidence are staggering for a trio that most recently hammered through a song about "doin' the cockroach. An intoxicating mix of uncertainty and confidence, The Moon & Antarctica constructs hallow approximations of heaven, hell, and deep space- most of which exist vividly in Isaac Brock's questioning mind. OK Computer must be mentioned, for Modest Mouse just got invited to the same club. They can chat existentially in the sauna. But unlike's Radiohead's unease at technology and quickening society, Modest Mouse grapple with the general conjectures of humankind. The title aptly entails the whole of the album.

The Moon & Antarctica was Modest Mouse's sixth album, released in 2000. It contained a total of 15 tracks and was released by 1999 Ugly Cassanova Music/Crazy Gnome/Tschudi Music (ASCAP). Most of this album seems to be a collaboration of Isaac Brock's views and philosophies on everything from how to handle life, to life after death, to misconceptions and falsehoods of religion. This album highlights Brock's misanthropic and depressive views, as well as atheistic beliefs. 1 2 3 4 5. Modest Mouse. Modest Mouse - Gravity Rides Everything. dl. Complete your Modest Mouse collection. This is, by far, the best Modest Mouse album. Sublime at many levels. Get it, you won't regret it. Transparent vinyl looks great but 2nd disc got a black point, it's not in the surface of any side but in the inside of the record itself (?¿) Responder Ver 2 respuestas Notifícame 1 Helpful.

The Mouse plays to my hearts desire. This ablum is by far very under-rated. However, this whole album rises above the line and spits in the mainstreams eye with its brilliance. This album is not only good for the old time Modest Mouse fans but also for the new comers who don't really know the true vipe of the mouse. Alone down there just feels me with emotion while Gravity Rides Everything makes even the most emo depressed person see joy in everything around them

Modest Mouse's major label debut, "The Moon & Antarctica" is a cold, depressing album heightened by Isaac's manic delivery and great songwriting. Not to mention that the album artwork/song titles are awesome as well. Kinda sucks how downhill Modest Mouse fell, but at least we can enjoy this masterpiece of an album.

Modest Mouse span across a galaxy of fifteen cosmic endeavors writing about the universe and how there is no heaven or hell. they've created their own hell to which there is no escape. is completely desolate, perfectly explaining its album title, what with the two loneliest places around and in the middle of them is Brock, lost at the ocean of space. It exists on the fringe, and by doing so creates a wonderful sense of comfort, as if a little cabin on the edge of the world that only you know about

I disagree with other comments. I have a decent mid tier system and find the sound quality very good on this press. Dynamics are great, lots of low end and highs, mids are very clear. Its not the cleanest press for noise, but its at a very limited level. Bummed the this pressing doesnt have the lock out groove on A4 but not the end of the world. This was one of my fav albums growing up and I am very happy to have it sounding this good in my collection.
Nten
Not in favor of this pressing. The levels sound off and the packaging wasn't great. Expected more from an anniversary edition and from this band. Buy another version.
Whitemaster
Nice pressing. Had to zero my levels to adjust for the dynamics. Totally makes up for the boring package.
Wizer
Sounds much better than my original cd. Hearing depth never heard before. Highly recommended pressing.

I don't have an auto return turntable and it still won't go into the groove at the end. It just ends. I don't know why.
Whilingudw
A little late to respond, but a lot of new records seem to do this on my ONKYO turntable. New pressings do weird things on vintage turntables. Sign o' the times me thinks.
Dalarin
whats the difference between the original and the reissue? Wikipedia says Brock messed around with the mixing on the reissue
Talvinl
Sounds better than i expected! Overall pretty pleased with this one...

Which vinyl edition is the best one to get in terms of quality?

Don't know if someone has already PMd you or anything, but no, it doesn't.
Steep
does this pressing have the locked groove?
VariesWent
Paid a good chunk of change for an original pressing....truthfully it's a minor upgrade over the 10th anniversary....
September
Is there a locred groove on the first press? If so does it actually sounds decent because the locked groove on the 10th anniversary is just annoying
Rrd
This music hell is no EMO
Katius
The music hell is yes awesome! ! ! ! !
Clever
the sound of this pressing is excellent. very dynamic and spacious and clear. however, the packaging leaves a lot to be desired, as it's a non-gatefold sleeve with lyrics on one of the record sleeves. i'm assuming the 10th anniversary reissue is the same.

My record player doesn't loop the end of Perfect Disguise. I can tell it should keep repeating "Broke...my back..." but it just plays it once (and sometimes not at all) before the needle automatically returns to the cradle (I'm guessing because the locked groove is so close to the middle). Anyone else have this issue?
Freighton
usually for locked grooves you need to have a record player that doesn't auto-reject. strangely, my turntable doesn't do that but the record stops. it won't do the ending locked groove
Yellow Judge
Yep, have the same issue with my Audio Technica AT-LP60. It does this with a lot of records, like Sgt. Pepper's.
Gralmeena
even though mine turntable is automatic it loops the end of the song but it does not repeat "broke my back" but "baaaack...". it sounds rather annoying.
Qudanilyr
Yep, same thing happens to me. Guess it wasn't meant for auto-return tables :(

Wow 12 years ago. The infamous album that ended it for a lot of Modest Mouse fans of the 90s. Their turn to Digital recording, and departure from Up Records. This bands soul was never same after this release.

Back when people actually cared if a band signed to a major. I was guilty of that too, to a certain extent, although by that point I was happy for them. Like when I heard their song on a Miller beer commercial. I thought, "Good for them!" Isaac grew up dirt poor and lived in a shed for a time. Why shouldn't he get paid for his art? Anyone who gave a shit about the format they recorded on was total dork though. This record still sounds fresh and exciting almost 18 years later. It wasn't the album that changed them, that would be Good News. Anyways. This band will be remembered for generations for the stories found within the songs.

I think this is their best album and the fact they went to a major label only makes it better when the realization is made that almost none of these songs were truly radio friendly when this came out. It was experimental indie rock from a band that was exploding on the scene. I think the follow up Everywhere and his nasty Parlour Tricks was the jumping off point for most fans as it was evident that Modest Mouse was taking it to friendlier terms for general public consumption. But hey, that's just like my opinion, man.
